One of the elements I admire most about this post and you, is that you both exhibit something I have learned from studying neuroscience: Discovery is greater than Knowing. Everytime we open ourselves to discover instead of insisting that we have to know something for certain, we grow and expand. Keep sharing.
Zig Ziglar is thought by many to be the father of motivational speakers. I have seen him in person and listened to his tapes. He was a sales man who inspired thousands over the years.
I did a Wikipedia search eventually but had not heard of him for some reason. Apparently he had a big impact on some of my friends and colleagues. Changed-the-course-of-their-lives kind of impact.
I discovered Ziglar in the 1980s and followed him through the years. I took his training program in the 1990s and visited his office in Dallas. I also saw him speak live at the National Speakers Association convention.
As a confirmed doodler, I read your book several years ago and loved it. Thank you for writing it.
Ziglar was known for his sales training in the beginning. His main motivational speech was about creating a positive attitude. He told powerful stories. Here is one of his speeches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UViMuhjvh1k
This reminds me of the creativity theory which says people struggle to create without an 'appreciative other.' Learning and creativity are points on the same spectrum, methinks. Psyched to reconnect with you this way. ❤️
Meg, that’s fascinating and it completely makes sense. And it’s my belief that the appreciative other can be ourselves, but I suspect that comes later developmentally, and I also suspect it may need to be taught and learned for many of us. It IS nice to connect in this way! My extroverted hermit is just smitten. Thank you so much for participating.
I’m delighted that Boy George and Tom Waits made it on that list. I’m also delighted to discover new artists. I love that you made this list! What motivated it?
Interesting...I’m still very much learning Substack (hence my attempt to reply to you originally using @DavidEllsworth 😃) so it hadn’t occurred to me that I might run into the problem of music sharing. Maybe they’ll get to that soon? For now, I’m celebrating my new playlist from you. And also 🙌🏼 the use of music to catalyze ideas. I definitely include that channel in facilitated sessions, and life in general. I think I’ve redesigned business services because of The White Stripes.
It's a song on his playlist and she is so good. She was quite a child prodigy and now an adult woman who plays a gazillion instruments, sings with a soulful voice, and plays with some of the greatest in blues and jazz. Definitely check her out! Saw her live show in Seattle last year and was blown away.
Sticking with "build me up from" theme, I'm going to say... "Build me up from black and white." Not sure why, it just bubbled up.
I feel like I could’ve use deductive reasoning to understand what you were talking about. 😁 I’ve never heard of her (will this be like the Zig Ziglar moment...when everyone writes to say, “you’ve never heard of her?!”), but now I’m looking forward to listening more.
@David Ellsworth - Thank you for sub-grouping, David. D.I.Y. learners, unite. I’d love to hear your story.
@Lyn Christian You get me. Thank you for the encouragement, always.

Just dipping in & finding this particularly title revitalizing! Thanks Sisters!

Oh, and thank you! #DoodleRevolution ☺️☺️☺️
I’ve now heard many good things. #zigziglar What was he motivating people to do?

🤩 Listening soon. Thank you!
Build me up from bones, Sarah Jarosz. She is such an amazing talent!
👀 up Sarah Jarosz. If that’s a book title, mine would probably be Build me up from Ashes. Yours?

P.S. Digging the B/W Build me up theme.
